So I'm wondering what everyone else does and if you guys have any solutions around the horrible S0 sleep they forced on all of us without giving us a choice.

In Windows 7, you can set your computer to either use or not use the Hybrid or Hibernate sleep mode option from the Advanced Power Plan Options. That's not all due to hibernate I know, but it doesn't help. By default, the size of the hidden protected OS hibernation file (C:hiberfil.sys) is 75 of the total amount of installed RAM on your computer. I've had it for only a month and have over 2000gb of writes. This is especially bad, for example, if you put it in your bag and leave it in there, only to find later that it's on and burning hot with the battery nearly dead.īecause of how horrible S0 is, I've disabled it completely and have just been hibernating my laptop, but I have worries about wear on my ssd because of it. Never thought I'd have to ask this but after buying a new laptop recently I've discovered that Microsoft decided to implement S0 as the default sleep state which is hot garbage, while at the same time getting rid of S3.įor those who are unaware, S0 is sort of like a low power state but not complete sleep where many people experience the computer still on and the fan still running when you expect it to be sleeping.
